Uncle Fred’s Tree Face

Uncle Fred in Huntsville, AL sent me a tree face for my birthday. It’s become one of my favorite yard ornaments. Thank you, Fred! Since we don’t actually have any trees to speak of, the tree face now adorns part of the privacy fence. Gradually during the summer, as the morning glories grow, they hide the tree face, which is revealed again in the early fall. Impatiens are below the tree face. July 11, 2006.

Miniature Horse Escapes in Hodgenville, KY

One of our neighbors owned three of these charming miniature horses. Two were Roy and Ziggy, who seemed to most enjoy their escapes, when they could be spotted grazing on neighborhood lawns until Penelope Puppy’s barking alerted people to their presence, and the gig was up. June 29, 2005.

Weighing Giant Sunflower

Here’s our organic gardener, smoking a cigarette while he shows off his prize giant sunflower. We saved the seeds from this one for this year’s sunflower garden, toasted some sunflower seeds and left the rest for the birds. October 23, 3008.

Penelope Puppy Destroys Lambie

Silence of the lamb. Never one to leave well enough alone, Penelope Puppy plays rough with her toys — destroying them all. Just because she can. Lambie actually survived for about a year. Looks like Penelope Puppy is having second thoughts about this one. October 28, 2008
