I grow sunflowers in West Virginia and need to know what is best time to harvest. I use my seed to feed birds . Any suggestions
Hi neighbor Bill,
We’re next door in Kentucky. We have a hard time harvesting our sunflower seeds – the birds beat us to a lot of them! You can harvest them now – just set the heads out to dry and when the heads are nice and dry, just break them up and all the seeds will fall out. I’ll try to get some more sunflower pictures up. Last year, we wanted to try for the Guiness Book of Records but our tallest sunflower was only about 19 feet tall and the record holder is about 26 feet, so we weren’t even close, hahaha.
